Insights Into International Documentary Filmmaking
In this episode of Reel Moments, documentary filmmaker Leslie Bornstein discusses the making of her new film, Terra Pesada. Shot in Mozambique in South Eastern Africa, Terra Pesada shares the life and music of Heavy Metal musicians in the capital city of Maputo.
During our conversation, Leslie discusses how she travelled to Africa and happened to see a flyer for a Metal Concert. “When I saw a flyer for Evil Angels nothing could keep me away. The minute I walked into the club in Malhazine, a “zone” of Maputo, I knew I’d be happy to spend the rest of my life there,” she says.
Leslie is one of the most candid women we’ve had on Reel Moments. She’s not afraid to speak her mind. She’s talented, extremely knowledgeable and totally BadAss. At 74 years old, she’s inspirational to anyone who has ever been told they are too old to start something new.
You can support Leslie, her film, and especially the artists in Mozambique by directly donating to her non profit organization: Information regarding all three are below.
The Terra Pesada Foundation is a 501(c)3, donations tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law, connected with the film. Its mission is to pay for the educations of the musicians, whatever they’d like to pursue; give instruments and equipment to the music schools, rehearsal and performance venues, as well as to the musicians themselves; cover healthcare; and because this is Mozambique, which last year experienced two destructive cyclones, to aid in disaster relief.
The information for how to donate, including a link to pay by credit card, is on the contribute page of the website.
