Yvonne has been empowering women for more than 20 years. As founder of a streaming service and one of the top women’s film festivals in the world, Yvonne has been supporting women creatives and developing programs and projects that support diversity, inclusion and a louder voice for women around the world.
During this talk based on Yvonne’s experience of building the WIFF community, Yvonne explores the power of women supporting other women in the face of self-doubt. She highlights the importance of celebrating each other’s achievements, creating a culture of encouragement and offers strategies for women to build a supportive network that fosters confidence and celebrates success.
This talk leverages Yvonne’s experience with WIFF and her podcast to address the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of Black women in media. She discusses historical tropes, explores the importance of Black women owning their narratives, and showcases projects by and for Black women filmmakers that challenge stereotypes and offer authentic portrayals
Drawing from her upcoming book “Step Into Your BadAss Shoes,” Yvonne shares valuable lessons on how stepping into the spotlight and promoting your personal brand is not just about self-promotion; it’s about empowerment and creating opportunities for others.
We ask our guests about their experiences and to provide value by giving advice to those who may want to follow in their footsteps. If you love movies, support women, or if you’re an actor, singer, producer, editor, cinematographer, director, musician, or want to be…. this podcast is for you.
Documentary Filmmaker Alice Elliott joins Yvonne for a discussion about the importance of the documentary film format, fundraising and more
